SAM AMEEN
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Samuel V. Ameen is a Hollywood-based filmmaker with over 20 years of experience on over 100 credits that include features, documentaries, episodic television and network specials as well as national commercials.
Some of his recent work can be seen on Netflix: Sneakerheads, Jay Mohr: American Treasure, and Strip Down Rise Up.
Sam began his career as Director of Photography on independent films Tin Soldier with director/actor Jon Voigt and Charlie’s Ghost Story with director/actor Anthony Edwards. Since then, he has worked as DP on a wide variety of films, many of which have been official selections in festivals around the world ranging from Sundance to Berlin. Among those have been the narrative Spark and the documentary SOS State of Security. Sam has served as DP and/or camera operator on over 18 documentaries on subjects ranging from the Middle East to governmental fraud to school shootings. Among his most current documentaries are Echos of Columbine, Strip Down and Rise Up, and My Name is Lopez.
With a wide range of skills as a Cinematographer, his recent work in network television has been as a camera operator on Netflix's Sneakerheads, ABC’s Downward Dog, director Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal and Amazon’s Betas. Among the various series he shot as Director of Photography has been The Fosters Girls United. Network specials have included Blackish and The Goldbergs as well as the Emmy-nominated Lost Presents: Mysteries of the Universe - The Dharma Initiative.
Throughout his career, Sam worked as DP on numerous commercials that include the NBA, Chrysler, Disney and Mattel as well as network promos and PSAs. Sam has
also worked as DP on extended features for highly visible franchises such as Spiderman 1, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Destiny.
Sam is a member of the International Cinematographer’s Guild and Veterans in Media and Entertainment.
